The school has a vibrant recent history: "Notre Dame Middle School was founded in 1996 by the School Sisters of Notre Dame with the help of PAVE and a group of Milwaukee-area business executives. Their vision was to fill the education void in the rapidly growing, low-income, Hispanic neighborhood on Milwaukee’s near south side. The school began with 26 Latina students and is now an all girls 5th -8th program. After 17 years of proven academic achievement, a strategic plan was implemented to extend the school’s reach into the lower grades in order to prepare the incoming fifth graders for the rigorous academic work expected of them. In August 2012, Notre Dame Primary School opened and currently serves 240 boys and girls.
With the addition of the primary school a new name was branded in 2014 to encompass the whole K4 – 8 school community. The primary and middle schools now operate as Notre Dame School of Milwaukee." The school has two campuses in the city and continues to grow into an educational leader.
