The conference focuses on continuing the conversation around established models for dual language education and wishes to explore new, better ways of promoting multilingualism internationally. The established program models include the following:
One-Way Foreign/World Language Immersion
Co-Official/Regional Language Immersion
Two-Way Bilingual Immersion
One-Way Developmental Bilingual Education
Indigenous Revitalization Immersion
According to the CARLA website, “While each model targets distinct sociocultural contexts and educational needs, all embrace language, literacy, and culture development through subject-matter learning with a high degree of language intensity. The Seventh International Conference on Immersion and Dual Language Education will bring these models together to engage in research-informed dialogue and professional exchange across languages and instructional contexts.” If you feel that this message speaks to your mission in education, please consider submitting a proposal!
CARLA accepts proposals for the following five conference strands, with the option of presenting papers, engaging in discussion sessions, and organizing laptop poster sessions:
Strand I: Immersion Pedagogy and Assessment
Strand II: Culture, Identity, and Community
Strand III: Program Design and Evaluation
Strand IV: Policy, Advocacy, and Communications
Strand V: Professional Preparation and Learning
If you or someone you know would like to submit a proposal for this conference, please find more details about the conference here and submit your proposal here. Please note that the deadline for proposals is May 1, 2018.
